Jane Hirshfield’s eighth poetry book, The Beauty, was long-listed for the 2015 National Book Award. She is also the author of two now-classic books of essays, Nine Gates and Ten Windows, and editor/co-translator of four books presenting world poets from the past. Hirshfield’s honours include The Poetry Center Book Award, the California Book Award, and fellowships from the Guggenheim and Rockefeller foundations, the National Endowment for the Arts, and The Academy of American Poets. She served as a chancellor of The Academy of American Poets from 2012–18, and her work appears in The Times Literary Supplement, The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Guardian, The Irish Times, Poetry, and eight editions of The Best American Poems. She lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.
